Community Mural on 4th St.

A new community mural is slated for the East side of the CenturyLink building in fall of 2021.

Over a year ago the community completed a survey with themes to include in a community mural in downtown Carbondale. The four original artists on the project (Gayle Embrey, Brian Colley, Steve Keohane, and Vanessa Porras) reviewed all the responses and designed a mural that encompasses the top themes our community wanted to see.

The core mural team has grown to include Christie Interlante, Lindsay Jones, Gabriela Mejia, and Sally Nicholson, along with Michael Stout, and we couldn't be more excited to get to work after some serious delays due to COVID.

The team worked countless shifts and hours in Gayle’s garage to prep, prime and collaborate on painting the top panels. Once those were complete they sketched out the rest of the design on the larger lower panels and invited the community to help paint. Over 90 people contributed to this mural!

The community mural will officially be unveiled First Friday, November 5, 2021 from 4 - 5 pm and will also honor Día de los Muertos with a procession, through downtown beginning at 5:30 pm. Full details at carbondalearts.com
